Grade 5

The Music course for the 5^th grade is designed to develop students’ skills such as singing, reading notation, playing instruments and critical response. A variety of music will be analyzed during class; students will study music theory and perform two part songs and classical pieces. Students will learn to:

• Sing music representing diverse genres and cultures both independently and with others.
• Rehearse and perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts.
• Identify and use standard notation for pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo and articulation.
• Play simple melodies on a recorder accurately and independently both by ear and using notation.
• Analyze and describe various musical attributes after listening to various performances both in and out of school.
