INTRODUCTION AND COURSE OBJECTIVES

Dance as a form of art characterizes different shapes. It is manifested through movements and gestures that result from human endeavors and emotional relationships with our surroundings. The emphasis is on how students move in their environment. Students will learn fundamental locomotor (running, hopping, skipping, jumping, leading, sliding, galloping), non-locomotor (bending, twisting, turning, rocking, swaying, balancing, stretching, pushing, and pulling). They will participate in a variety of movement activities leading to experiences of personal feelings of success. Units of instruction include fitness, body image, manipulative, and accepting and expressing ideas through movement. This course is designed to help students develop an awareness of Body and Space ,and learn different dance styles (folk dance, modern, jazz, pop, hip/hop dance.)

It is expected that students will:

  • Move safely through space while interacting with the others;
  • Respect others space;
  • Participate in creative dance and learn social and cultural dances
  • Create dances using a problem-solving approach when exploring and developing movement to express personal ideas and feelings
  • Responds to changes in tempo
  • Be able to recognize and perform dance choreography

Dress Code

  • Wear NOVA P.E/ Dance uniform;
  • Wear appropriate and clean athletic shoes;

Performances

Exit point : Celebration dance (November), Winter performance (December), Exit point (april), End of the year performance

Students now are learning the 3 little pigs dance for the unit The Stories people tell.
