Grade 5

Course Goals

This course is a continuation of the grade 4 Art course where another major skill is added. Students will improve their aesthetic senses, which will enable them to start appreciating art based on its real artistic value. Students’ creativity is exhibited though making different group and individual projects in which are implemented 5 subject areas (drawing, painting, sculpture and architecture, printmaking and design and visual communication). Students will become familiar with basic of art language (elements and some of principals of art) with the most important- basic vocabulary and definition and use art language in their artworks. The course will include research about famous artist and their artworks. Skills are going to develop with practice and foster perception, imagination, memory and creativity. Course covers field trips to the local museums, galleries.

Course objectives:

· Students will demonstrate knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques unique to the visual arts.

· Students will demonstrate knowledge of the elements and principles of design.

· Students will demonstrate their powers of observation, abstraction, invention, and expression in a variety of media, materials, and techniques.

· Students will demonstrate knowledge of the processes of creating and exhibiting their own artwork: drafts, critique, self-assessment, refinement, and exhibit preparation.

· Students will describe and analyze their own work and the work of others using appropriate visual arts vocabulary. When appropriate, students will connect their analysis to interpretation and evaluation.

Different cultures, different themes, inspirations, techniques ... the challenge accepted .... and the art principle movement helps us to create our idea...
