Art idea: Dream- Marc Chagall

Art elements: line, shape, texture, color

Art material: soft pastels, crayons, color pencil, water color, markers

Due date: 27.05.2020

Intro:

By studying the art and style of Marc Chagall, students will create a fanciful piece of art representing themselves and their surroundings. Chagall was both a brilliant colorist and a gifted storyteller, as romantic narratives come to life before one’s eyes. His poetic depictions and childlike imagery allow the viewer to escape the realm of the real and enter the world of the imagined.

o Born in Liozna near Vitebsk (then a part of the Russian Empire) to a family of Hasidic Jews. In 1906, he moved to St. Petersburg to study art. By 1910, Chagall had set his sights on Paris and moved to the cultural hub to pursue a career as a professional artist.

o Through the development of his whimsical, romantic style, Chagall achieved greatness. The public became enchanted with Chagall’s fairy-tale touches, fanciful motifs, and colorful, ethereal imagery.

o During World War II when the Nazi party took power, Chagall sought refuge in America, accepting the invitation of the Museum of Modern Art to live in New York’s lower East Side. Adjusting to life in America was not easy, as Chagall had difficulty communicating in English.

o In 1948, Chagall had settled permanently in France and continued to create beautiful and inspired works. He lived a prosperous and full life, ultimately passing away at the age of 98 from a heart attack.

Lesson plan 6

Art idea: Pointillism art- George Seurat

Art elements: Shape and color

Art material: Makers or tempera

Due date: 10.05.2020/ Sunday

Intro:

Pointillism is a painting technique developed by the artist George Seurat. It involves using small, painted dots to create areas of color that together form a pattern or picture.

He was a French Neo-Impressionist painter in the late 18th Century. He was born in 1859 and died in 1891.

· He believed that the artist could create mood, harmony and emotion in art by using colors and lines.

· He painted using small distinct dots of colors directly on the canvas, without mixing the paint. This way when you stand a distance away, the dots seem to blend in into the desired color.

Step 1: Watch the video to get to know the artist and his work

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDW4wSTm-V4

Lesson plan:

Steps to create your painting:

1. Start out by thinking of the subject you would like to draw. You can draw anything you like: nature scene, portrait, flowers, animals, a beautiful sunset, a still life, and so much more.

2. Then sketch it out on your paper.

3. Squeeze a little bit of each color that you think you will need ( if you are using tempera).

4. Coloring process: Use cotton swabs, back side of your paint bush, or back side of your pencil. Don’t mix the colors! For example, if you need to make a purple car, use blue and red dots to paint that car in. If you need lighter green and darker green, use green and yellow or white dots for the lighter area, and green and black or brown dots for the darker area. Play around with colors and have fun!

- If you use markers, make sure you use only primary colors!

- Don't forget the background

Lesson plan 5

Art idea: Pablo Picasso and Self portrait

Due date: 26.04.2020/ Sunday

Art elements: line, shape, color

Art material: color pencil, soft paste, water color or tempera (whatever you have from these materials at home), collage

Intro:

This lesson focuses on Cubism, a revolutionary style of modern art, and on its co-founder, Pablo Picasso, one of the world’s most famous artists. Cubist art depicts real people, places or objects, from an array of viewpoints. In the Cubist style, you will create self-portraits focusing on shape, viewpoint and composition.

When we look at objects, our eyes scan them, they stop to register a certain detail before moving on to the next point of interest and so on. You can also change your viewpoint in relation to the object allowing you to look at it from above, below or from the side. Therefore, the Cubists proposed that your sight of an object is the sum of many different views and your memory of an object is not constructed from one angle, as in perspective, but from many angles selected by your sight and movement. Cubist painting was an attempt of a more realistic way of seeing.

Pablo Picasso (October 25, 1881 - April 8, 1973), was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

Grade 3

Art idea: Self portrait

Art elements: line, and color

- Proportion

Art materials: pencil, color pencil or markers

Art technique: Drawing

Drawing a Unique Self-Portrait

Of course, no self-portrait lesson plan would be complete without an actual self-portrait! Draw yourselves in a way that reflects who you are on the inside, not what you look like on the outside. Extroverted, energetic students might choose to use brighter colors to spice up their portraits, while more serious or quiet students may prefer to use black and a more realistic style. Superhero fans can draw themselves as they would appear in a comic book panel, while a student who loves horses might draw themselves riding on one.
