Just came back from 2 days at RPI's Web Science program, currently ranked #1. 

Two initiatives caught my eye: 

1. The Institute for Data Discovery and Analysis (IDEA)

2. The Web Science Ctr/Consortium at the Thederless World Constellation (TWC).
