Magnificent McNary’s Update

What another great week in kindergarten! If you want to see pictures of your students in action please follow us on Twitter @mcnaryclass! In the mornings the teachers have meetings so you will see a stop sign across the hall to prevent families from coming down the hall. The stop sign will open at 8:30am to start the day! If your student has snack for the day you may put it in their backpacks or on the file cabinet outside our classroom door. If you have any bus changes please call the school or email me before noon. I check my email at noon, but often don’t get back to it until the students have gone home for the day. As you know I take all bus riders from the Orange Room and Green Room after school, and pick-up students will be in the Green Room. If you have questions about any of these procedures please let me know! I appreciate your support keeping all of our students safe and getting them home safely.

READING: This week students listened to Pete the Cat books, and even got to draw Pete! Students continue to work on hearing the difference between sounds which is the building blocks for phonemic awareness (sounds in words). Students also recited the following nursery rhymes: 5 Little Pigs; Buckle My Shoe; Star Bright; Twinkle Twinkle; Hickory Dickory Dock; Diddle Diddle Dumpling; Little Bo Peep; Little Boy Blue; Baa Baa Black Sheep; and Humpty Dumpty. At home read with your children nightly, and discuss the story with them!

WRITING: Students continue to work on writing and drawing horizontal, vertical, and circle lines. We have also practiced using shapes to draw people. At home have your students practice writing or drawing!

MATH: Students working on recognizing, building, and writing numbers to 5. They worked on how many more they need to get to five. At home have your student count as high as they can. At the end of kindergarten we want them to count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Students continue to build community and relationships with each other. Star Students were recognized this week and it was great to learn about students and make connections. Our focus for the week was on listening skills, and that you use your ears to listen.

¡Qué gran semana más en el kindergarten! Si quieres ver fotos de tus alumnos en acción, síguenos en Twitter @mcnaryclass. En las mañanas, las maestras tienen reuniones, por lo que verá una señal de alto en el pasillo para evitar que las familias crucen. ¡La señal de stop se abrirá a las 8:30 a.m. para comenzar el día! Si su hijo tiene un refrigerio para el día, puede ponerlo en sus mochilas o en el archivador fuera de la puerta de nuestra clase. Si tiene algún cambio de autobús, llame a la escuela o envíeme un correo electrónico antes del mediodía. Reviso mi correo electrónico al mediodía, pero a menudo no vuelvo hasta que los estudiantes se hayan ido a casa por el día. Como saben, al final del dia, llevo a todos los pasajeros del autobús de las aulas naranja y verde, y los estudiantes de recogida estarán en la Sala Verde. LECTURA: ¡Esta semana los estudiantes escucharon los libros de Pedro el Gato, e incluso llegaron a dibujar a Pedro! Los estudiantes continúan trabajando para escuchar la diferencia entre los sonidos que son los componentes básicos para la conciencia fonémica (sonidos en palabras). Los estudiantes también recitaron las siguientes canciones de cuna: 5 pequeñito cerdos; Atar mi zapato; Estrella brillante; Centellea centellea; hickory dickory dock; Diddle Diddle Dumpling; Pequena Bo Peep; Pequeño Niño Azul; Baa Baa Oveja Negra; y Humpty Dumpty. ¡En casa, lea con sus hijos todas las noches y discuta la historia con ellos!

ESCRITURA: Los estudiantes continúan trabajando en escribir y dibujar líneas horizontales, verticales y circulares. También hemos practicado el uso de formas para atraer a las personas. ¡En casa, haz que tus alumnos practiquen la escritura o el dibujo!

MATEMÁTICAS: Los estudiantes que trabajan en reconocer, construir y escribir números en 5. Trabajaron en cuántos más necesitan para llegar a cinco. En casa, haga que su hijo cuente lo más alto que pueda. Al final de la guardería queremos que se cuentan hasta 100 de 1 de hasta un 5, y de los años 10.

ESTUDIOS SOCIALES: Los estudiantes continúan construyendo comunidad y relaciones entre ellos. Los estudiantes estrella fueron reconocidos esta semana y fue grandioso aprender sobre los estudiantes y hacer conexiones. Nuestro enfoque para la semana estuvo en las habilidades para escuchar, y que usa sus oídos para escuchar.
