Another HUGE thanks to Orquidea Blanco who made delicious posole and Gabriela Burgos who made jello for the holiday party! I accidently left their names off the last update, but if you sampled their food you will know they need their own special thank you! Happy 2017! Hope your students had a magical holiday! It has been fun to hear stories all week of fun on winter break!

READING: This week the students learned the sounds for b, l, and r. We reviewed the differences between b, p, and d. Confusing to write, and confusing to hear! Book bags are coming home! Look for a note in the bag about how it works! Also in the bag is your students reading assessment information from the middle of the year. Let me know if you have questions about their results!

WRITING: Students practiced writing b, l, and r. They also were able to write in their writing journals. We discussed what writers do, and what writers can write about. Students will focus on personal narratives for the first month by writing about something they are experts in, themselves!

MATH: Students compared numbers recognizing what is greater or less than 10. Also they talked about 1 or 2 more or less! Ask your students at home to show you 1 or 2 more or less of objects.

SCIENCE: We continued to learn about farms! Ask your student what crops and produce are! We read the story of the Little Red Hen, and connected it to our Farms unit. Students also talked abouts seasons on farms, and how things get from the farm to the market. When at the grocery store with your child, ask them if they know where things come from!
