English studies in Year 9 are focused on expanding student knowledge and application of the foundations of reading, writing and speaking/listening.
Students deconstruct how authors create characters and ideas through specific language choices, themes and connection to real world context in a range of articles, novels, films, poetry and short stories.
Students write and present their understanding of these language choices, themes, and big ideas. They do this through analytical essay writing, structured creative writing, and oral presentations.
Students are supported explicitly with grammar, punctuation, and structure to improve the mechanics of their writing.
