Students engage with the play-making process as they work in groups to plan, improvise, write, rehearse and perform a self-devised performance work. They look at a range of dramatic styles and improvisation techniques before beginning an in-depth exploration of a topic which forms the basis of their performance. Students will learn the skills required to devise and present ensemble performances, develop drama terminology, and critically analyse theatre. Assessment will include a theatre review and an ensemble performance. There will be an emphasis on skill development for senior years, including a theatre excursion.
Drama Pathway
Drama builds on the skills developed in Performing Arts subjects in Years 7-9, and helps students develop their understanding of Drama for VCE. The ability to improvise and think on your feet, understand how to communicate with an audience, effective voice control and other creative skills are all widely applicable, and also assist students in their study of English, Music, Dance, and the Humanities. Drama studies can lead to studies at a tertiary level in media and communications, advertising, public relations, filmmaking, drama and theatre studies, as well as a vast range of careers including acting, law, public relations and teaching.
