Year 10 Media study is designed as a taster for students considering VCE Media. During the first term students analyse how media texts use technical codes and story conventions to construct representations and different film genres. Students will also undertake a variety of small practical tasks such as designing the sound for a famous film scene. They will undergo the production process from pre-production through to post-production to make two short films. Students will also sit an exam at the end of the semester about the theoretical aspects of the course, in preparation from senior VCE Media Studies.
Year 10 Media leads towards VCE Media in senior levels. It offers students a solid understanding of visual and written language, fosters exam writing skills, creative thinking and builds technical proficiency using digital video cameras and editing software. Media students can complete Certificates in Media Production at TAFE for entry into a variety of Production/Media based industries or consider entry into a range of degrees at a tertiary level: communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, film studies, arts, teaching.
