Environmental science is a subject that explores the connections between humans and their environments. Within this subject you will conduct field work to investigate the how much humans change the environment. You will investigate the consequences of these changes in local and global contexts. The focus of the investigations will be on biodiversity, energy use and climate change. You will also conduct laboratory investigations and field studies which will involve use of technologies, sampling techniques, case studies, simulations, animations and the databases. In this subject you will conduct a sustainability inquiry project, choosing Environmental issue that you are interested. You will need to collect and analyse data about the issue, develop a solution to the issue, pitch the solution to relevant stakeholders, implement your solution and evaluate how successful your project has been. This is your opportunity to make real change in both the school and wider community.
This subject is designed to prepare students for Unit 1-4 Environmental Science. Some career pathways are: Environmental Scientist, Environmental Consultant, Sustainability Consultant, Ecologist, Environmental adviser, EPA officer, Environmental Engineer, Park Ranger.
