EAL is the study of English for learners who are relatively new to the English studies. It enables students to listen, read, write and speak in different contexts and prepares students to think about how authors, directors and other creators build meaning with their texts. It involves the study of books, plays, films, podcasts and other forms across different contexts, and investigates a number of purposes. This study opens students’ eyes various voices and encourages students to develop their own insight and own ideas, while expanding their language in collaborative and communicative manner.Â
Developing cohesive writing through the crafting of your own texts designed for a specific context, audience and purpose
Identifying and developing skills in the analysis of how vocabulary, text structures, language features and ideas in a text construct meaning
Studying the above features to make personal connections with text to draft and develop original responses to text
Developing analysis of persuasive texts within the context of a contemporary issue, including the ways argument and language can be used to position an audience
Constructing a point of view text for oral presentation
Lawyer, teacher, doctor, applied health professional, psychologist, mathematician, plumber, hairdresser
Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Psychology, Bachelor of Social Work, TAFE course, apprenticeship or at any trade -specific registered training organisation.
*Most university courses have an entrance requirement of 30 or more in EAL for learners who are elegible to study EAL
