Curriculum updates in preparation for the 2026 school year are currently underway and will be complete by Monday July 28 2025
English as an Additional Language is designed for students for whom English is a second language or an additional language or dialect. These students have had different experiences in English and one or more other languages. Students who study this subject come from diverse personal, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
Curriculum focuses on developing students' literacy skills in English, preparing them for further study in the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education). The curriculum emphasizes the study and creation of various spoken, written, and visual texts, encouraging critical analysis and response.
EAL classes provide the opportunity for students to improve their English language proficiency in smaller classes with a specialist teacher. The small classes provide students with a supportive environment where they can feel secure in practising their developing English language skills.
Areas of study follow the general VCE outcomes and include reading and responding to texts, analysing and developing arguments, creating personal responses from set stimuli and developing oral presentations.
