Students design and make a range of textile products, developing their ability to work through constraints and considerations of a design brief. They will use a range of decorative surface techniques: screen printing, hand painting, dye methods and embroidery, and a range of materials and complex equipment to design and make their own Textile products. There is an emphasis on skill development for the senior years including creative and critical thinking, application of practical skills, examination techniques, and SACs. Assessment includes: a folio workbook, design briefs, research and investigation, sampling, final products and written evaluation of final products, processes, product use and sustainability.
Textiles Pathway
This subject builds on skills acquired in Years 8 & 9 Textiles. At Year 10, Textiles students have the opportunity to explore and develop their own creativity through design research and investigation, planning, design development, drawing, and making of their own textile products. Some of these skills are transferable to other subjects and importantly, provide a foundation to VCE subjects such as Product Design & Technology (Textiles) or Visual Communication and Design. The area of higher education or further education and training that Product Design & Technology (Textiles) or Visual Communication Design may lead to are Textile Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design and Visual Merchandising.
