What is this Subject?

In Food Studies, students build capacity to make informed food choices and develop an understanding about food security, food sovereignty and food citizenship. Students develop understanding of food while acquiring skills to take ownership of food decisions and eating patterns. Students examine debates about global and Australian food systems, focusing on issues about the environment, ethics, technology, food security and food wastage.

Practical cooking lessons that focus on

• the planning and preparing of food to cater for various dietary needs

• cuisines that are a part of Australia's culinary identity

• the physical and chemical changes that occur during food preparation and cooking
