This subject is designed to prepare students for VCE VCD by developing their skills in freehand drawing, rendering, and instrumental drawing. They will gain knowledge of drawing systems, standards and conventions such as one and two-point perspective; as well as isometric and orthogonal projections. Students will use design elements and principles to make visual communications that satisfy a stated purpose by using a design process. The design process involves: identification of a communication need, research and generation of design solutions, evaluation and refinement, and the completion of a final presentation. There will be an emphasis on skill development for the senior years including an end of unit examination.
Visual Communication Design Pathway
Year 10 Visual Communication Design builds on the VCD and Technology electives undertaken from Yeas 7-9, and supports VCE subjects such as Studio Art, Product Design and Technology, Visual Communication Design and Media. Students develop three dimensional drawing skills, and also learn about using the design process to create products that communicate to a specific audience. Visual Communication can be pursued at a tertiary level through various design degrees and TAFE certificates in careers such as Graphic Design; Interior Design; Fashion Design; Advertising and Industrial Design, and can lead to careers in a wide range of other careers such as architecture, urban planning, computer game design, web and multimedia design.
