What is this Subject?

Chemistry is all about how matter is put together and how it changes in chemical reactions.  

Students:

• learn how materials are bonded together, how chemicals react, and how different fuels give off energy and waste products 

• learn how to calculate quantities of chemicals and to name and represent chemical structures in different ways 

• develop critical thinking and analytical skills to solve organic and medicinal chemical structures from instrumental data 

• discuss how we can use renewable chemicals and energy to create a more sustainable future 

• refine their ability to design and conduct chemistry experiments and analyse the quality of their own data and the validity of others’ claims. 

What will you be doing in this subject?

• note-taking, observing demonstrations and watching videos

• answering questions – defining, explaining, discussing, evaluating

• drawing chemical structures and concepts & performing mathematical calculations

• performing scientific experiments and chemical modelling to reenforce understanding of theory
