LA MRS. SCHMITT
This week students will wrap up their focus on the essential question: "How do characters and their interactions teach us lessons?" Students will continue to characterization strategies to demonstrate their understanding of a text, while determining the theme of a text. Students will practice strategies that support their thinking of the theme and central message of a text. Students are working to determine a theme or message from the text that can be applied to their own lives.
These strategies will be modeled with the whole class, then students will work independently to complete the strategies using various 4th grade level texts. We will be reading Wonder as our main read aloud/mentor text, as well as a few fiction picture books.
Students are learning about reflexive adverbs and verb tenses. Students will also begin to learn about modal auxiliaries.
We are analyzing well crafted mentor sentences as a class. Students are also practicing these skills on IXL, Khan Academy, and Freckle Apps.
Homework:
Weekly Reading Log for week of 10/31-11/4. Due by Friday 11/4. The form is posted on their Language Arts Google Classroom.
Vocabulary Test on Thursday, November 10. This is the final Vocab Test of the First Trimester.
Vocabulary Unit 5 words were reviewed in class today and have been posted on Google Classroom, as well as on the Google Site Resource page titled Vocabulary. An example vocabulary test has also been posted on Google Classroom.
MATH: MRS. BENNETT
This week in math class we will start working on our next module which will explore multiplication and division patterns with tens, hundreds, and thousands. Students will learn mental math strategies for multiplying and dividing. We will explore using the commutative and distributive properties to help us solve equations more efficiently.

SOCIAL STUDIES: MRS. CRUSH
We will continue our unit of Geography of the United States. Students will understand that the United States has a diverse geography and various maps can be used to represent and examine the geography. They will identify and map major physical features, including mountains, rivers, lakes, and large bodies of water. They will also examine climate and vegetation maps to explore the relationship between physical features and vegetation/climate. We will continue our studies about the Northeast Region. Students will be assessed on the state capitals + states and they will also be researching and presenting a landmark on the Northeast Region. They will continue to work on their Northeast Region Projects and will be presenting this week and next.
RELIGION: MRS CRUSH
We will continue Ch. 2, "Praise and Thanksgiving, " in our Blest Are We workbooks. We will be able to name special gifts that God has given us, understand that at Mass we give thanks and praise to God, especially for the gift of Jesus, learn the Scripture account of the Last Supper, and learn about the life of Pope Pius X. We will also conclude with an activity on St. Francis of Assisi, our saint of the month of October! ***Image of activity below.***

Please continue to monitor Rediker on a regular basis. As always, feel free to reach out to the specific content area teacher if you have specific questions about grades/progress! The end of the First Trimester is November 11.
Behavior Infractions:
Based on recent student behaviors, there will be no tolerance for placing hands, feet, or objects on another student. We strive to treat others with kindness and respect at all times. Please know that these behaviors will not be tolerated and is against our school policy. Students will not receive a warning at this point, as this is expected behavior. An automatic infraction of 10 points, which is halfway to a detention, will be given to the student. Severity of the incident can result in an automatic detention. Please discuss with your child at home.
