DVE--Lesson-A

Digital Video Editing - Lesson-A

Welcome to Digital Video Editing! For this experience, we will be using a program on the PC's called Movie Studio Platinum.  This is a high-end program that allows you to free form your movies as you see fit.  Lets get started by opening the program.

When you open Movie Studio Platinum, you'll see a screen like this:

The screen is divided into three parts:

Getting Media into your Project:

In the upper-left corner, click on the Add-Media button.  A pop-up box will appear, and you should go to your H-Drive and select the files you wish to put into your movie.  Once you add them to your media pool, it will look something like this:

Getting Media onto your Timeline:

Once your Project Media is loaded, you place them onto your timeline by clicking & dragging them.  See the video below for further instruction and en example.

Adding Text MediaThere is so much you can do when adding Text.  Please see the short video and a small sampling of the options available to customize your text.

TINKER TIME!

Using images and text, begin to build a video using the same topic that you are building your website.  Use the images in your H-Drive. Get more from the internet if you need them.

Editing Media on your Timeline:

We will learn more tips and tricks next time....for now, just get started on making your movie.

I am available during 2nd Connect and Flex, if you need help or want to come in and work.  :)

Once media is on the timeline, it will be necessary to make some changes, time-length, etc.  Below is a short video of how to do this.

Fades and Cross-Fades:

A short video on how to do a Cross-Fade with two pieces of media is shown below:

To fade a piece of media in or out, simply grab the upper corner (blue arrow), click and drag it in.  You'll notice an arch appears showing the extent of your fade.  It is usually a really GREAT IDEA to Fade or Cross-Fade all of your media.
