Welcome to The Business Behind Video Games!

COMMERCIALS & ADS

Before the days of DVR, people actually watched commercials on TV as opposed to just fast-forwarding through them.

Now people see ads on the Internet, usually right before a video they are trying to watch.  Ad length can be 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 seconds.  The longer the ad, the more it cost the company who sponsored it.

Let's take a look at a few examples:

Silly Fun Ad (Zelda) - The purpose of this ad is to appeal to kids and promote that fact that this game is crazy-fun!  They used a somewhat loud/obnoxious character that many people find entertaining as a featured part of this ad.  Also spotlights small parts of the product

Product-Based Ad - The purpose of this ad is to get customers to buy the product by showing off as many of the product's features as possible.  They even spotlighted one of their games! (Zelda)

This one starts when all of the characters are "so happy together", and then something goes wrong....(Super Smash Bros. N64)

Ads (Target Marketing People) -  This ad is aimed (pun intended) at everyone.  All races, sexes, nationalities, etc.  Their point is that ANYONE can play, and their is a gamer (soldier) in ALL of us.  They even used famous athletes and celebrities to drive that point home.  (COD)

ALL of the video game commercials shown above needed many people to be successful.  Actors, Directors, Marketing Specialists, Budget/Finances, Production Specialists, Video Editors, etc.  Just think of all the money and time that goes into a commercial....WOW!
