Why do we use LAYERS when designing advertisements?

List three reasons on your iPad while your computer logs on.

Warm Up Activity - Send an E-Mail to Mr. P

• Don't use your iPad, use the PC!!!

• (Yes, you'll need to log onto Gmail)

• dprothero@waukesha.k12.wi.us

• Use the Subject Line = "Marketing Mix"

• In the body of your email, start with an opening (Dear ___) then write one sentence and tell me the four P's of marketing.  Bonus Points if you can get ALL FIVE!  (NO PEEKING!!!)

• Include a closing (Sincerely,) as well as your email signature

• Send the email to Mr. P

Photoshop Layers Introduction - Building a Cheeseburger  

1. Open a New Photoshop Document (800 pixels wide X 600 pixels tall)

2. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Bottom Bun")

3. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a light brown, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Bun

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Lettuce")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a bright green, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Lettuce

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Tomato")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a red, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Tomato

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Burger")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a dark brown, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Burger

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Mustard")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a yellow, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Mustard

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Ketchup")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a red, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Ketchup

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Top Bun")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a light brown, (same light brown as bottom bun!!!) adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Top Bun

1. Create a New Layer (Layer, New, Layer, Name it "Seeds")

2. Find the "Brush Tool" and click on it to activate it

   1. Change the color to a lighter brown, adjust your Brush Size, then click to draw your Seeds

Want to add MORE to your burger?  Go ahead!!!  Choose from any of the toppings below:

• Cheese (Challenge--make a square piece of cheese?)

• Onions

• Relish

• Pickles

• Mayo

After you finish adding your other toppings, see below:

1. Now that your burger is COMPLETE, lets disassemble it, layer by layer.  (HINT:  Keep it all on the screen, but make sure I can see each layer)

2. Once Dis-Assembled, save it as a copy (call it "Burger--your last name - your first name")

   1. Turn this project in to Google Classroom.

Photoshop Layers - Independent Project

Using the skills we learned while building a Burger, now its time for you to make your own lunch.  You can choose one of the following items to make for lunch (in Photoshop):

• Pizza

• Sub Sandwich

• Hot Dog

• Taco

No matter which item you choose, you MUST have AT LEAST 8 layers to your final design.  Make sure to save this file when you are done, I'll collect it at a later time.
