Choking Breath. Any creature in melee range must make a save vs Breath or suffer a -2 penalty to attack rolls and damage rolls due to blinding, choking smoke while in melee range (save negates). Creatures from the Lower Planes or those that do not breathe are immune to this effect. Riders are likewise affected.
Plane Shift. (major) A nightmare has the ability to plane shift to/from the ethereal or astral plane as an innate ability as per the spell, plane shift. Any riders are likewise shifted with the nightmare. When moving to the ethereal plane from a Prime or Inner plane, this is treated as phasing (ie. the location is in the same "spot" where the ethereal overlaps with the Prime or Inner Plane). This power allows the creature to roam the planes touched by these transitive planes.
Also known as "demon horses" and "hell horses," nightmares are creatures from the Lower Planes. They are ridden primarily by the more powerful demons, devils, or daemons as well as by night hags. On occasion, they serve as steeds for undead such as spectres or vampires. Such masters are keenly jealous of their mounts.
The nightmare attacks with its great fangs as well as its burning hooves. These creatures breathe out a smoking hot cloud during melee, and it obscures vision by blinding the eyes and choking its opponent. Nightmares can fly, become ethereal, and roam the astral plane. Spirits of the Lower Planes, they hate material life and attack viciously, even without a rider to command them.
Description. The hell horse is gaunt and skeletal with a huge head, glowing red eyes, flaming orange nostrils, and hooves which burn like embers. The coat is dead black, and the creature's mane and tail are wild and rugged.
