Tail Spikes. [missile] A manticore can sling 1d6 tail spikes per round at a single opponent as one attack routine. They attack an opponent's armor defense as a light crossbow and range values are short: 10-60-ft.; medium (-2 attack): 61-120-ft.; and long (-5 attack): 121-180-ft. Each spike that hits does 1d6 piercing damage. A manticore can fire a maximum of 24 spikes each day. Tail spikes grow back when a manticore rests. Note: If a manticore attacks with it's spikes while flying, the range values are medium (-2 attack): 10-60-ft; and long (-5 attack): 61-240-ft.; There is no short range while a manticore is flying and it cannot use tail spikes against creatures in melee range. The spikes gain the arcing attribute while the creature is flying assuming no obstructions overhead as per a composite longbow (otherwise, long range while flying is limited to 120-ft.).
Manticores prefer dismal lairs, so they are typically found in caves or underground. They range in all climes, although they enjoy worm places more than cold. The favorite prey of manticores is human, and they are usually encountered outside their lairs hunting for human victims.
Description. The coloration of the manticore is that of its various parts—lion-colored body, bot-brown wings, human flesh head.
