The experience of taking part in the SDG Exhibition was eye-opening. The poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou was examined by my group in light of SDG 4: Quality Education. My job was to lead an interactive exercise where guests may express their thoughts about Malaysian education and post them on our whiteboard for others to see. It was encouraging to see people share their opinions, whether they were about their goals, personal challenges, or suggestions for enhancing the educational system.
It took devotion and teamwork to prepare for the exhibition. Despite our hectic schedules, we collaborated to create an interesting and educational exhibit. Every team member was essential, from organizing supplies and decorations to coming up with original ideas for how to portray our subject. We stayed dedicated to establishing a forum for important conversations about education despite obstacles like time restraints and organizing our activities.
One of the highlights was witnessing visitors share their personal experiences. Education is deeply personal, and reading their notes about struggles, hopes, and ideas for improvement was eye-opening. Some engaged in thoughtful discussions, while others simply reflected on the messages displayed. Seeing people connect with our booth and engage in meaningful conversations made our efforts feel truly worthwhile.
Beyond our own booth, I visited my classmates’ booths, each representing different SDGs. Their interactive activities made learning enjoyable, and I gained valuable insights into various global issues. Some booths had games, quizzes, and creative discussions that encouraged participation and reflection. It was inspiring to see the effort everyone put into their exhibitions, making the experience both educational and fun. These interactions reinforced the idea that education extends beyond textbooks—it is about exposure to new ideas and perspectives.
I believe that literature can be an effective medium for addressing global challenges was reinforced by this encounter. "Still I Rise" exemplifies empowerment and resiliency, two concepts that are consistent with the value of high-quality education. Additionally, the exhibition assisted me in honing critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. I discovered the importance of cooperation, flexibility, and successfully interacting with an audience.
