THE SHORT STORY & SDG
SELF REFLECTION
Time Management
One of the major challenges in our micro-teaching session was time management. We struggled to allocate sufficient time for each segment of the lesson, particularly during the activity portion. Due to poor planning, we spent too much time on certain parts, leaving us rushing through other crucial elements. The lack of effective time management affected the overall flow of the lesson, making it difficult to ensure a balanced and engaging session.
Teaching Satisfaction
Despite the time management issue, I found certain aspects of the session to be fulfilling. Seeing students engage in the lesson and participate in discussions provided a sense of accomplishment. However, I was not entirely satisfied with my delivery, especially during the challenge segment, where I felt unprepared and awkward. This affected my confidence and made the session less effective than I had hoped.
Areas of Improvement
There are several areas where I need to improve:
Lesson Preparation – I need to ensure that I am fully prepared for each part of the lesson, particularly interactive activities, so that I can conduct them smoothly.
Confidence in Delivery – I should work on my public speaking skills to appear more confident and less awkward while teaching.
Time Management – I need to practice better time allocation to ensure every part of the lesson gets enough attention without feeling rushed.
Student Engagement Strategies – I should explore different techniques to keep students actively involved while ensuring a smooth transition between lesson components.
Strengths and Weaknesses
One of my strengths in this micro-teaching session was my ability to engage students in discussions, allowing them to express their thoughts freely. However, my biggest weakness was my lack of preparedness during the challenge activity, which made me feel uncomfortable and impacted the effectiveness of my teaching. Additionally, my poor time management prevented the lesson from running as smoothly as planned.
Overall Reflection
Reflecting on this micro-teaching session, I recognize the importance of thorough preparation, confidence, and effective time management in delivering an impactful lesson. One key takeaway is the potential integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into my future lessons during practicum. I believe incorporating SDG elements would not only raise awareness among students but also enhance the relevance and depth of my teaching. This experience has given me valuable insights into areas I need to improve, and I am determined to refine my teaching approach for future sessions.
