MY SDG EXHIBITION EXPERIENCEÂ
Participating in the SDG Exhibition was a meaningful and eye-opening experience for me. Our booth focused on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, which highlights the importance of using resources sustainably and reducing waste. Preparing for the exhibition made me realize how much human activities contribute to overconsumption, especially in ways that harm animals and the environment.
During the exhibition, we showed a video to raise awareness about the consequences of excessive consumption. I noticed that many visitors were surprised by the information. Some had never considered how their daily choices, such as food consumption and shopping habits, could negatively impact wildlife and ecosystems. Seeing their reactions made me feel that our booth was making a difference, even in a small way.
We also set up a self-reflection board where visitors could write their thoughts and ideas on how to help reduce overconsumption and protect animals. The responses were varied—some people felt guilty for their habits, while others suggested practical ways to reduce waste, such as choosing sustainable products and cutting down on plastic use. Reading their thoughts made me realize that awareness is the first step toward change.
I believe literature can be a great medium to educate students about SDG 12. Through stories, students can emotionally connect with the impact of overconsumption and understand its real-life consequences. Books and poems about sustainability can inspire them to be more responsible consumers.
To better prepare future teachers, the B.ED TESL program should include more hands-on activities, such as exhibitions, debates, and discussions on sustainability topics. This would help us understand how to incorporate SDGs into our lessons in an engaging way. Workshops on eco-friendly teaching methods could also be useful.
Overall, this exhibition taught me that raising awareness is essential in tackling global issues. Even small efforts, like educating others, can lead to bigger changes. I hope to apply what I have learned in my future classroom and encourage my students to be more mindful of their consumption habits.
