Lesson Reflection
Micro-teaching was both a challenging and rewarding experience. Throughout the process, I dedicated a significant amount of time to planning and designing my lesson plan. Initially, our first short story was not approved by Ms. Thina, which led us to brainstorm again. We eventually selected The Elephant Man, but before finalizing it, we had already prepared another short story, which was later chosen by another group. In total, we designed lesson plans for three different short stories, each with unique activities and objectives. This process was time-consuming but also an insightful experience in lesson planning.
However, I feel that the time allocated for the lesson was not entirely sufficient, especially for the reading portion. The reading activity took up more time than expected, which left me unable to conduct a discussion on the comprehension answers. I also had another activity planned, but due to time constraints, I could not execute it as effectively as I had hoped.
Reflecting on my teaching performance, I was not entirely satisfied. I realized that my language skills were not as strong as I had anticipated. Surprisingly, I felt very anxious during the session, even though I had been excited beforehand. If I had another opportunity, I would focus on improving my language proficiency, as it is crucial for me as a future English teacher.
Like any learning experience, my micro-teaching session had both strengths and weaknesses. One of the strengths was the selection of The Elephant Man as the short story. Since my peers were unfamiliar with it, they were highly engaged throughout the lesson. The most enjoyable part of the session was when students were asked to create and draw a new character. They were excited and actively brainstormed ideas to reduce inequalities. However, some of the characters they created were described using negative words, which shifted the activity’s direction away from its intended purpose. Ms. Thina noticed this and advised me to be more careful when conducting such activities in the future. I appreciate her feedback and will take it into consideration in my future lessons.
Overall, while there were challenges, this micro-teaching session was a valuable learning experience. It allowed me to identify areas for improvement, particularly in time management, language proficiency, and ensuring that lesson objectives are fully met. With these insights, I am confident that I will be better prepared for future teaching opportunities.
