THE SHORT STORY FOR THE LESSON
For the micro-teaching, we spent three days planning and designing our lesson plan. This time frame was sufficient for us as it allowed ample opportunity to craft and refine our lesson carefully. Even after consulting with our lecturer, we had enough time to make necessary adjustments, ensuring that our lesson plan was well-structured and aligned with our objectives.
Reflecting on my teaching satisfaction, while I am okay with my micro-teaching session, I am not entirely satisfied with my teaching performance. There are still many areas that need improvement. Despite this, I was able to achieve all the lesson objectives, which was a positive outcome. To integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our lesson, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), we selected a short story that aligned with the theme of mental health. The activities included SDG-related questions, and during our discussion, I made sure to emphasize the importance of mental health and well-being.
If given another opportunity, there are several aspects I would like to improve. One of the key areas is my voice projection. I need to speak louder and more firmly to maintain students' attention and create a more authoritative presence in the classroom. Additionally, I want to bring more energy into my teaching style to ensure that the class remains engaging and dynamic. A more interactive and fun learning environment would definitely help to sustain students' interest and participation. Moreover, to better incorporate SDG elements into my lesson, I could include a wider variety of activities that encourage students to think critically about sustainability and well-being. For example, I could introduce real-life scenarios, role-playing exercises, or collaborative projects that require students to come up with solutions to mental health challenges in a sustainable manner.
In terms of strengths, the lesson was well-structured and effectively integrated SDG elements. The selection of a short story related to mental health helped contextualize the topic in a meaningful way, allowing students to engage in discussions that promoted awareness of mental well-being. However, one of the weaknesses of the lesson was the way I delivered my lesson. a more enthusiastic approach would have likely resulted in a more engaging session for the students. Additionally, while we included SDG-related questions, there is still potential for a deeper and more meaningful integration of sustainability concepts such as incorporating real-life case studies or interactive activities that further highlight sustainability and well-being.
Regarding peer feedback, my classmates generally provided positive comments on my teaching. However, I noticed that some of them appeared less engaged, which might be due to my own lack of energy during the session. This feedback is valuable as it helps me understand that my enthusiasm directly impacts student engagement. If I improve my energy levels and teaching presence, I believe the class will be more interactive and enjoyable for students. Additionally, the feedback highlighted the importance of making SDG elements more engaging. Moving forward, I could design activities that encourage students to take an active role in discussing sustainability and well-being, such as group debates, problem-solving tasks, or interactive storytelling methods that make SDG themes more relatable and impactful.
Overall, this was a good teaching experience, especially since it was my first time conducting a micro-teaching session while incorporating SDG elements. It was challenging to find a suitable story that aligned with the theme, but it was a rewarding learning experience. I gained valuable insights into lesson planning, classroom management, and the importance of integrating sustainability topics into education. While the lesson was decent, I know it could have been better. Moving forward, I will focus on enhancing my delivery skills and ensuring that students remain engaged throughout the lesson. This experience has contributed to my growth as a teacher, reinforcing the importance of continuous improvement and the meaningful integration of SDGs into teaching practices.
