From a personal and honest point of view, with regards to the content learnt within the CIM 151 unit, it was quite minimal. Although this is a creative and theoretical unit, I found it a unit that is very student self-directed and self-studying.
From one perspective, minimal content was covered in our lessons at times, which from one perspective can make it more difficult for us as students, but on the other hand, also enabled us with an opportunity to develop our self-directed learning skills, which are a set of skills that are applied daily in our professional life.
One thing that I learned this trimester in CIM and can reflect upon is presentational and audience engagement skills. Within each of the project submission and milestones, we were required to present a piece of work, whether as a video presentation or a spoken presentation, therefore providing us with an opportunity to develop these skills.
Within this trimester, and regarding having the opportunity to continually reflect on my transferable skills and my weekly learnt content. This trimester provided me with the opportunity to reflect on what I had learned that week and on how I could improve.
This reflective practice process, also allowed me to cross-check and apply what I had learned and received feedback on my other units as well. Another skill that I can reflect upon as a successful skill this trimester has been time management. Despite the lack of collaboration from my group peers with regard to final assessment submission, I persisted in being able to ensure at all times that all project and learning journal content was continually updated within the set and given timeframe.
With regards to the next and final trimester in Dubai, the skillsets on which I feel I could work and improve are reflective practice and learning journal content. In future units, I will look to ensure that I keep consistency with the weekly reflective practices in terms of adding interactive media and relatable reading materials.
To ensure these skills and set of action points are successfully met and developed, I will look to meet with my lector on a 15-day basis to receive feedback and understand where I sit within the overall hospital grading scheme. These steps will require me to stay on task at all times.
In addition, for the upcoming trimester, I plan to regularly incorporate creative and interactive media into my weekly learning journal reflections.
Laslty, if I am to undertake any further units with Ousama, I will also look to continue to document all communication with relation to project or reflective practice decisions through email, as this will enable me to register all communication and reflective practice revisions.
In terms of the overall assessment guide and grading for this unit, I believe I should be able to achieve an HD grade. Despite the delayed first three weeks, I consistently felt I was able to stay on task and regularly ask for feedback and apply improvements. In further addition, I was also able to submit and present both my learning journals and project submissions within the given time frame. Another reason why I believe I should be able to achieve a high distinction grade in this unit is since I have been able to continually reflect on my work every week by asking for in-class feedback from my lecturer and my peers, and then acting on the feedback provided.
