The idea behind this project was to recreate Blinding Lights by the Weekend in the style of Conna Gray. To achieve this, I underwent an in-depth research process to help and support me with identifying which techniques, chordal patterns, instruments, and effects Connan Gray uses within his tracks.
After collating information from different tracks within Conna Gray's songs "Mainiac", "Heather" and "Telepath", I was able to begin my production research procedure. The information collated can be identified above in the project mood board section. When all the information and in-depth research sections were completed, I then went on and began the production, mixing, and mastering process. This was a very informative task and learning experience whereby I had the oppertunity to learnt a lot of new production techniques and, most importantly, how to use Abelton DAW Software.
At first, it was a challenge to understand how different features operate within Abelton, as it was the first time useing this DAW. In addition, it was a great experience to learn how to produce music from scratch through the content learnt in class from my teacher, Zubin. Despite it being a challenging process, I thought that it was a great experience and if I were to repeat it, the thing that I would change upon this reflection process is to ensure that my instruments were panned within my mix to further support the overall instumental balance.
My next steps upon submitting my project will be to wait for feedback to be provided and to follow through to create an action plan that will allow me to improve for future submissions. For future projects, I will also try and ensure a continuous feedback process from my teacher to allow me space for improvements and enhancments both in my project production process and also in the write-up and reflective document.
In terms of the transferable skills which I feel can be reflected on and demonstrated within this project are self-practice, time management, problem solving, and communication skills. The reason why I feel that self-practice, time management, and communication skills were a huge part of this project was because we, as students, were required to work independently to manage our own time leading to the project submission, but at the same time, we also had the opportunity to practice and develop our musicality while having the opportunity to enhance our communication skills when communicating to our peers and receiving feedback. Finally, the way in which I feel that problem solving was a part of this project was through the production process, as we were required to individually come up with solutions to problems encountered but also learn new skills within our personaly set time frames.
