Weekly Reflection (What, So What, Now What, Peer to Peer Feedback & Transafarable Skills)?
This weeks topic was "diffrent audio forms" and diffrent ways in which we engage with audio throughout a weekly basis. The main aim of this weeks session was to discuss and understand the way in whoch we can represent and communicate diffrent feelings, emotions, symptoms and aims through the use of audio. This sessiona allowed me to understand what type of audio effects and methods i could use in project three to express and communicate my chosen emotion. The idea behind diffrent audio forms sumerises into three diffrent points:
How does audio interact with film? games? music? architecture (space)? communities (place)?
How could audio enhance, modify, change, our experience in the world?
If a music app contains different pre-rendered loops and gives the user tools to modify and juxtapose them, who is the composer, who is the musician, who is the audience?
As a pre-class activity for this week's session, I decided to start off by receiving some feedback from my lecturer and peers on my learning journal. The learning journal feedback I received was extremely helpful and constructive. The feedback I received suggested that I maintain the current consistency of descriptive reflective practice while improving the manner in which I am gathering extensive research. As a pre-class activity, I was also required to create a map or list of the ways you engage with audio and its type as a percentage. My created list can be seen below:
Spotify ( streaming service ) :30% Aprox : 8 years
Youtube : 50% ( videos and music ) Aprox : 18 years
Phone conversations : 20% Aprox : 21 years
The diffrent audio forms learnt during todays class were as follows:
Stereo is an illusion created between a pair of speakers arranged in an equilateral triangle with the listener.
When we wear cans (headphones) we create a binaural (two ear system) where each ear only hears its corresponding channel. Assuming you've got them on the right way round,
Befor goinging onto reviewing our project three status and development we had a read through and discusstion about the way in which audio for virtual reality sets is arranged and created. The reading matirials are as folows:
My overall understanding of this reading task was that the binaural post-processing is accessible in aux and output channel strips. This plug-in lets you apply different compensation modes to a stereo bus or output through which several or all binaural signals are transmitted. This saves CPU power and makes switching between compensation options simple.
The last part and section of today's session was to review the progress of project two and discuss what the next steps were to complete the final submission. During this part of the session, I was selected as one of the selected students to demonstrate my project. However, my next steps before week 12 are to finalize the recording process of the project and coordinate with Bianca (a current film student and friend of mine in Canada) to video the 3 minute scripted response. I personally feel confident with what steps I have to take in order to successfully meet all the outcomes of this final project, but I will be requesting Kevin to provide me with feedback in week 12 before the final submission date.
In terms of the transferable skills learnt and applied during this session, I believe it was a great reflection of time management and self-reflection. The reason why I believe that this week's session was a great reflection of time management is that I had to efficiently plan my time from now until the project's completion date in order to ensure that all content and secifications were covered. In terms of self-reflection, I believe I was able to represent this skill by revising and reflecting on the feedback provided by my peers during this week. This is the way in which I can improve my project 3 assgnment. One of the students who has provided me with feedback was Marc, and the feedback that he provided me with can be seen in the screenshot embedded on the right.
