We had the opportunity to work on various vocal mix and recording techniques during this week's sessions. We had the opportunity to work alongside Zubin within the audient studio setting to re-record the vocals for the "Creep" track. Within this session, we learnt the differences between a tube and a condenser microphone, we also reviewed stereo signal flow and also discussed the benefits and drawbacks of EQ Singles on a DAW vs on a physical desk before processing the audio.
Towards the end of the second session, Zubin also went through the different components of a successful sounding vocal chain and what it was made up of. It was really interesting and informative to learn about all the different components that make up a vocal recording and the different techniques that can be recorded and process vocals in a studio setting in comparison to a live recording scenario. How I will be able to apply today's learnt skills outside of SAE will be through different live event scenarios and in personal studio recording sessions. I will also be looking to apply today's skills within my upcoming Project 2 when re-recording the vocals for the Angles Track.
In terms of this week’s transferable skills, I thought they were a representation of creativity and practice. The reason for this was the fact that we were given the opportunity to work with different mic placements and settings to ensure that we captured the best vocal recording possible within the given studio timeframe and scenario. Furthermore, the way in which practice can be reflected in this week’s learning was during the track vocal chain effects that were used to clean up and process the vocal recording. I think that this week's lesson was very exciting and will have a high impact on and influence my future project developments. It was a great experience and a learning opportunity, which I can now continue to apply in the creation process of Project 2.
