Weekly Reflection (What, So What, Now What, Peer to Peer Feedback & Transafarable Skills)?
This week's class focused on different ways in which emotions can be expressed. As a pre-class activity, we were required to create a piece of music that expressed an emotion we were trying to convey. I am not a musician myself, so I found this task quite difficult and instead decided to research further into what different genres of music are most popular nowadays. The reason for this choice of research I conducted was to get me prepared for project 3. Out of all the information I found, I personally felt that the chart inserted on the right was the most informative. The reason for this is that it gave me create data based on a real-life social media platform used by all ages nowadays. in adition as a pre class activity we were also reuqired to watch the TED Talk below. The TED below goes through the way in which people interpreates diffrent music tracks and styles. The TED talk also justifies the reasoning behind wwhy not every person reacts to a piece of music in the same way.
During today's lesson, and upon reflecting on everyone's finds from the pre-class activity, we then went on and learned how we, as humans, are manipulated through the use of film music. It was fascinating to learn about this topic because it will be extremely useful in Project 3. Lastly, during this week's session, we were then presented with project 3's brief and were asked to discuss ideas and get them approved before starting the production process. I had definitely already read the brif and discussed different options with my lecturer. My options were as follows:
Record different emotions at different locations around Dubai to create a multi-emotive project.
Emotions can be expressed through different facial and body language gestures and by different people.
Create a short film project with a calabroation aspect from the film student and select a track that will express the film scene.
In a discussion with my professor, out of all the three options mentioned above, he advised me to stick to the last option to enable me to focus on expressing one emotion instead of a variety of them.
So what today's session taught me was the difference between active and passive listening and how different emotions can be expressed through video and film. I personally found that it was very interesting to learn about the emotional expressions connected to different projects and how directors are able to successfully communicate through their pieces of multimedia. It was also great to have gone through different projects to give us an idea of what is expected from us to reach the different grade levels and meet the brief requirements.
My next steps will be to in-depth read the specification and highlight the main key words and features that I am required to include within my multimedia video project. My aim before the next class is also to reflect on what I did well in project two and how I can apply the feedback I received to project three.
In terms of the transferable skills learnt this week, I personally feel like the most reflected ones were time management and creative thinking. The reason for this choice was the following:
time management as I was able to plan my time and reflect on pre-class activities and extensive research prior to the lecture time.
In terms of creative thinking, the reason why I feel this is a skill reflected in today's class is because we had to discuss and collaborate on ideas that we could use for project three that were creative but at the same time expressed a certain emotion or feeling to an audience.
I found this session very informative and relevant. I am very excited to be able to present different project ideas for approval next week.
