This week's session was aimed at understanding what chord progressions are within a song and how they are formed. During today's session, we looked at the difference between a minor and major scale. The difference between different keys and how we can identify what key a song is in.
My aim during this week's session was to understand the different notes that chords can be made up of and how we can use our creative producer skills to come up with melodically correct choral progressions. In order to achieve this, I used a chordal chart to identify what key the blinding lights were in and used already created sheet music to plot the midi notes for my Ableton Live session. I personally found this session very interesting and I feel like it helped me gain more knowledge in terms of production and how to start from scratch.
My next steps this week at home will be to finalize my chordal patterns for my project 1 and insert screenshots of my finalized project within the project page. This week I will also be aiming to begin looking for a vocalist for my project vocal recording session in week 5. The way I will achieve this is by constructing an email that can be sent out to all SAE students in the future to search for and look for existing vocalists who would be willing to calibrate for my project.
In terms of this week's transferable skills, the skill which I feel we're best reflected was creativity. The reason for this chosen skill was due to the fact that we were required to use our creative thinking and skills to understate and come up with a chordal progression which sounded musically correct. I personally think that cognitive outsourcing is something that could also be reflected on, as we had the opportunity to collaborate with other students to reflect on what they had done in comparison to our project.
Keys
C D E F G A B C
Scale - A set of notes that work well together/sound musically ''correct''
Melody - A sequence of played notes in the same scale , creates a melody
Harmony - Multiple notes from a scale played simultaneously
( Another word for it = Chords )
Most popular western scales : Major / Minor
Major = Happy
Minor = Sad
MIDI = Language that instruments use to communicate with each other.
Research : self playing pianos - Tom n Jerry
Interval : Distance between two notes. measured with tones and semi tones
Tones : Moving up an entire key eg. From C to D.
Semi-tone : Moving half way up an entire key. eg. From C to C Sharp.
To find all notes in major scale : Start at C Draw notes in all white keys from C2 to C3 for example and then move to scale of what you want.
To find all notes in a minor scale : Start from A and draw on all white notes from A2 to A3
and then move to key that you want.
