Weekly Reflection (What, So What, Now What, Peer to Peer Feedback & Transafarable Skills)?
The main aim of this weeks session was to learn and understand the way in whoch calaboration has changed the way in which musicians preform over time. As a pre class activity for this week we were required to reaserching into the follwoing points and define our understanding:
New ideas through collaboration: Collaborations have sparked beautiful genre-bending sparks throughout music history – a sound clash that fans and followers find difficult to resist or celebrate. Collaborations can be a terrific way to learn about new creative processes you never thought were possible, and for new musicians, it can be a means to reach new listeners by nurturing a following together.
Combining genres: Remix or take someone else's track that you like in a new direction, or add your own spin to it. You do not need to get permission to use their track. When you're inspired, you can begin re-creating right away. Just make sure you have all of your permits and copyrights in order before you publish.
Intercultural work: Intercultural music is music that incorporates aspects from two or more cultures. The creator of this music is usually from one of the civilizations from which the ingredients are taken, but this is not always the case.
Interdisciplinary work: Interdisaplinary work is understanding the connections between audio and music and other forms of art and areas outside of the arts is beneficial. Understanding music as it connects to history and culture is equally crucial.
As a music producer, you are frequently asked to make a new artist's song "sound like" another artist or genre. The idea, the aim behind today's lesson, was to understand the way in which we could potentially categorise our project three. It was also to teach us as music producers the way in which we can make use of different tracks or songs to create an unquiet one of our own, which is called a mashup. The mashup creation process is a process that can be done at any point in time but can only be published or released on the internet with the consent and copyright mark of the original author.
In the second half of this week's lecture, we were asked to stay back if we were interested in reviving feeback for our project three submission. I was one of the students who stayed back on the call to obtain feedback, and I personally found this part of the session very helpful and informative as it gave me an opportunity to reflect on what I had done so far and receive reflective criticism on how I could improve before the submission date. The feedback that I was provided with in regards to my project for improvements was that I should re-think the music choice and buildup of my short movie, as it should create suspense and fear as the characters develop.
Moving forward to the subission date I will be looking to alter the chosen track of my project to ensure that all the criteria are met and the project requirements are achieved. I personally feel like the transferrable skill that I can reflect on today is the ability to accept and learn from criticism due to the above experience and justification.
