Video Lessons archive

Every three months, I will post a series of new lessons - one in each of the following categories. Click on the category page link to access all of the video lessons I have posted so far!

This sections includes lessons teaching acoustic blues songs from the 1920s up to the blues revival of the 1960s. Artists who songs are featured include Reverend Gary Davis, Lonnie Johnson, Tampa Red, Blind Blake, and many more! I always try to choose songs that I have not seen taught on You Tube or other instructional videos.

These lessons teach solos heard in class blues songs - both electric and acoustic. Some are taught note-for-note, others are simply overviews to help you understand how the solo was played on the original recording.

(3) Classic Licks Profiles

In these lessons, I will profile a specific blues guitarists and teach examples of their style and licks that I have learned over the years. Artists featured so far include Earl Hooker, Mgic Sam, BB King, Freddy King, Eddie Taylor, and T-Bone Walker.

In these lessons, I teach the licks used to kick-off a variety of class electric blues songs including "Sweet Home Chicago" (Magic Sam), "All Your Love" (Otis Rush), and "In The Evening," (Jimmy Rogers). All are taught note-for-note from the original recordings!

In these lessons, I teach one specific lick from a classic blues song. These are interesting or famous licks from the likes of Hubert Sumlin, Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton, and many more! Licks are - to the best of my ability - taught note-for-note. Most can be played in multiple keys!

In these lessons, I teach different example of end tags - guitar licks used to end classic blues songs. If you play in a band, nothing is more boring that ending a song the same way every time. These lessons will give you some creative ideas for how to bring a song to a more interesting end!

In these lessons, I'll take a specific song and breakdown all of the different guitar parts - both rhythm and lead. Doing this can be tricky since it's often hard to tell for sure what all the guitars are doing throughout the entire song. but, I'll give it my best shot!

With each set of lessons, I'll include one that teaches a different chord used in electric and/or acoustic blues. This section will help you expand your chord vocabulary - especially beginners!

Other Lessons

When I have the time, I will post a variety of lessons on special topics including beginners' basics, instrumentals, and more!

Since I am not much of a singer, I have always loved blues guitar instrumentals. Over the years, I have learned or tried to learn any and all of these kinds of tunes I could find.
