Earl Hooker

Earl Hooker (1929-1970) is among the more underrated and unappreciated of all the classic blues guitar players. Unlike most other electric guitarists, Hooker played both "regular" electric guitar and slide in the SAME song! His regular playing was inspired by T-Bone Walker while his slide playing was learned by his association with Robert Nighthawk in Chicago during the 1940s. Hooker served as a session guitarist for a wide variety of performers -- including Junior Wells -- while also recording a number of instrumental tunes himself. Hooker played slide in standard tuning and open tuning (D - I believe!). He can be heard playing behind Muddy Waters on a couple tunes including "You Shook Me." Unfortunately, Hooker died at the age of 41 - long before his time.
