Reverend Gary Davis

Reverend Gary Davis (1896-1972) - Gary Davis was among the most versatile of all the acoustic bluesmen. His songs included gospel, blues, minstrel, and ragtime tunes - all featuring his superb guitar playing and singing. Many of his tunes are played in the key of C, but like others, he performed in every key and a variety of tunings. Some of his best guitar playing can be heard on his gospel recordings of the 1930s! Davis was "rediscovered" during the 1960s Folk Revival and many of his performances filmed.
