Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson (1911-1938) - Robert Johnson is by far the most well-known of the country blues musicians - mainly due to his mysterious life/death and the acclaim of contemporary blues and rock musicians. Along with Blind Lemon Jefferson, Johnson was among the most influential of the early blues guitar players.

Johnson played in a wide variety of keys and tunings and created much of the vocabulary of modern blues guitar. He played in open tunings and was a gifted slide guitar player! Most of his songs employ a monotonic bass played behind the melody. He played in standard tuning, Open G, and Open D tuning.
