Pat Hare

Pat Hare ( 1930-1980)- was a guitarist and singer from Memphis who played on recordings by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Junior Parker, and Bobby Bland. He, along with Willie Johnson, was one of the pioneers of the use of distortion to achieve a the "menacing" tone that is heard in most of his work. His "power 9th chords" and wild single string solos make his sound one the most unique in blues history. His solo masterpiece was a recording of "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby" for Sun Records in 1954. Ironically, Hare went to prison in 1962 for doing just that. Hare also served as a guitarist for Muddy Waters during the late 1950s - appearing on such tunes as Close To You and Evil.

Nothing fancy about Hare's playing - standard tuning all the way.
