Mississippi Fred McDowell

Mississippi Fred McDowell (1904-1972) - was one of the great bottleneck blues guitarists and singers.

Like Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, and Reverend Gary Davis, McDowell was rescued from obscurity by the blues revival of the 1960s. He recorded a large number of albums and made man live performances before his death from cancer in 1972. Many of these performances were captured on film - again provided us with a valuable record of his music and guitar playing.

McDowell was one of the only country blues men to pick-up an electric guitar during the 1960s.
