Tommy Johnson

Tommy Johnson (1896-1956) - was one of the most important of the delta bluesmen. He lived most of his life in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. After he got married in 1916, he moved to Drew, Mississippi where he lived near the famous Dockery Plantation. It was there he met two other giants of the Mississippi delta blues - Charlie Patton and Willie Brown. Johnson is known for his powerful voice and skillful guitar playing. Johnson's best known tunes are played in dropped D tuning - with the low E string tuned down to a D.
