Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We should remember that faith can be a fluctuating thing...At times our faith can be certain and solid...At other times our faith can be full of doubt...Faith can range from strong to weak, and from most certain to doubtful...Faith can also range from confirmation to denial...And in some cases loyalty to betrayal...
When we are weak in our faith it might be good that we look back to Jesus’ followers...We might consider how they saw and believed in Jesus...How was their faith?...We know that Judas betrayed Him...We know that Peter denied Him three times, before His crucifixion and death...Most believers deserted Him when He was arrested...And there were only a few Disciples at the cross with Him when He died...Thomas would doubt the other Disciples and not believe that He had resurrected...And yet, this is the group that Jesus had entrusted the entire future of the Christian faith to...The future of Jesus' Beliefs were held in their hands...And this would be the group that was given the Great Commission...
Faith is not an easy thing...Trusting in the LORD is not always an easy thing...But faith has lasted, even though it fluctuates...
