Matthew 27:27-31
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
The governor’s soldiers took Jesus to the Praetorium and the whole company of soldiers gathered around Jesus…He was about to be mocked and humiliated in front of all the assembled Roman soldiers…Man can be mean and it seems sometimes a herd mentality can easily be incited when one man or a small group of men get the others going…The They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him…They put a crown of thorns on His head, and a staff in His hand, and then they knelt in front of Him and mocked Him…They said hail to the King of the Jews… Roman soldiers took some delight in taunting Him, because this Man said He was a King, a Jewish King…
Then they started His punishment…They first spit on Him, and then they brutally struck Him in the head, again and again…They mocked Him again and then lead Him away to be crucified…This starts His punishment for me, and what I have done…This is what my sins did to Him…
