Matthew 26:1-5
The Plot Against Jesus
1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
Jesus knows all things...He knew He was going to be arrested, tried, flogged, and then crucified...Before He all this, He tells His disciples about this future act, against Him...He tells them that the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified...The chief priests, the elders, and the high priest schemed to arrest Him and then kill Him...But they did not want the arrest and having Him killed to happen, during the Passover Festival...
Jesus knew all these things were coming to bear on Him...This shows His love for us...He could at anytime do a miracle, or have some heavenly angels assist Him...He chooses to be arrested, tried, flogged, and crucified...He chooses these things for us...He will die for us...
