Matthew 22:34-40
The Two Greatest Commandments
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Do miracles show us God and who He is?...Do you think that God likes to do miracles?...God is LOVE, and is that the Great Miracle?...Is He revealed through miracles...They are easy for Him since He created the universe and has Complete Understanding...To me, God doesn't seem to like to do miracles, or many miracles at a time so that all people could see and believe in Him more...
Many believe God respects human free will so much that miracles would be seen as taking away part of our free will...I we were always asking for and always receiving the miracles we ask for would we have free will, and how would these frequent miracles be seen...Miracles would take away the choice to believe and could be seen as coercion...We might think that since these frequent miracles were happening so often, that we had something to do with it...
Faith is about believing in God and Jesus without having all the answers...So God may and does want us to focus on faith in Him and Trust in Him...Jesus said to trust in God, and also trust in Him...So faith and trusting in God and His Son, can be viewed or might be viewed as stronger than miracles...Some might believe and argue true faith comes from within, not from external signs like miracles...So if we look beyond miracles there is this emphasis that God's respect is more for human free will, than He has for more and more miracles...Constant miracles could be seen as taking away the choice to believe...Faith is about a personal decision, not something forced by external events and miracles...Miracles might create temporary belief, but genuine faith comes from a personal connection and a personal relationship with God...
Miracles by their nature are rare events...If they were commonplace, they wouldn't be seen as miraculous...Thus the everyday wonders of creation and the beauty of the world might be God's way of revealing Himself, instead of miracles...To see the beautiful sunset, or sunrise, or watching and listening to the ocean could be viewed as miracles...Pictures of God's Created Solar system are spectacular, so they could be viewed as miracles...And many say that God is near us and that the birth of a child and other living thing births are not rare events, but miracles of God to the people who are having a newborn, or watching a mother of another species having her new babies...These miracles are constant miracles each day, when God is showing Himself and that He is near...And since miracles are extraordinary events, if they happened all the time, they wouldn't be seen as miraculous...So this Great Beauty and Wonder of our natural world and universe might be a more constant way God reveals Himself...
Sometimes even miracles can be misinterpreted...People might focus on the spectacle rather than the deeper spiritual message...So one should always be focused on their relationship with God and His Son...Perhaps God desires a relationship with humanity built on trust and love, not just blind faith based on miracles...Jesus does tells us that the two Great Commandments are to love God and to love neighbor, which might in a sense teach us that love is the Great Miracle on earth...
The Bible itself doesn't provide a definitive answer to the question of why we don't see modern day miracles, like we had at the time God let His people leave Egypt and the time of Jesus...But enough people were inspired by God to write about these miracles of Him and His Son...Miracles are something for us to reflect on...
