Matthew 22:34-40
The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
On Our Own Weaknesses
7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
I believe when Jesus' gives us the Two Great Commandments is teaching us to love God and to love all of our neighbors...And I believe as I read the above verses I see a vulnerability...I believe to the follower of Jesus, there is this great link in love and faith...So as I read these verses we might see that their is vulnerability in love and faith...To share your love with someone and to have faith makes one vulnerable...And generally speaking when one is vulnerable, they are not as strong as they normally are...So this vulnerability can appear to some as a weakness...But this vulnerability is not true in love and faith...When one loves someone and their family, their neighbors, their community they are strong...To make yourself vulnerable in love makes one strong...
St. Paul tells us this about weakness and our faith in Jesus...For Jesus' sake let us delight in our weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in difficulties...I might add that let us also delight in our love and our faith...For when I am weak then I am strong...
So vulnerability starts in love and faith is where weakness appears...The more meaningful the love and the more meaningful one's faith, the more purpose and meaning is found in life...So the vulnerable path is the path we must look at taking in life...This vulnerable path helps us find love and faith...
