Matthew 26:14-16
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. 16From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Judas was one of the twelve disciples...Judas had the opportunity to learn from the greatest ever to walk the earth...He makes a deal with the chief priests...These are the chief priest of God...These men are professionals who pay to have Jesus go to be crucified...Judas was taught by Jesus...The chief priests knew the Scripture...Somehow they drifted away from their teachings...They abandoned the love of thy neighbor...Even though we can learn from the church, teachers, and the Bible we must everyday be on guard not to drift from what He and the Bible teaches...
Judas goes on to betray Jesus...He betrays Him for thirty silver coins...After Judas makes the deal with the chief priests, he looks for an opportunity to hand Him over...Judas betrays Him for money...It is not the lack or plentiful of money that is evil...It is the love of money and the material things that is the root of all evil...Judas abandons his spiritual health and well being and gives that up for the material...
