Exodus 3:14-17
I AM Who I AM
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
16 “Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.’
Matthew 22:37-40
Two Greatest Commandments
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
When the London Times, over a century ago, ask G. K. Chesterton what was wrong with this world, he said "I am"...And he is right...Man is a sinner, and mankind are the ones who make this world what it is...Something is wrong with our world and somehow we just cannot get it right...C. S. Lewis says man knows that he ought to behave in a certain way...That way would be one of justice, morally good, and treat others fairly...But Lewis goes on to say, man cannot quite behave that way...Lewis is telling us that something is wrong in this world, and man knows it, yet cannot quite do the thing or things to fix it...Man is broke and needs fixed...Since we are broke, we need One who can fix us and our ways...
If one very smart person or group of people were watching us on earth in the cosmos, with a complete global perspective what would he see?...I think he would see a world of troubles...He would see the daily earth and might wonder why we have wars, famine, and are not working together to make life better...It seems that we lack the ability to make with peace with each other, and ourselves...He would see man searching everyday to be happy and seeming to find it in gold, money, cars, house, toys, and material things...Trying to find happiness in material things maybe wrong...He would see that mankind is trying to find some sort of internal happiness with things that he desires...
At the same time when we think of what is right with this world, I must say it is "I AM WHO I AM."...The name I AM is the most holy name our LORD, our Father, our God...This One sent His Son and teaches us that happiness is not in riches and material things, but in the eternities...Happiness is found in His two great commandments...Love God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind...Love your neighbor, as you love yourself...All of Moses Law and all the Prophets taught hang on these two commandments...In fact, these two summed up commandments are what Moses and the Prophets wrote about in all our Old Testament Scriptures...And when you do these two eternal and simple things you will be happy and be peacemakers...This peace that He gives is with God, neighbor, and self...This peace He gives is not as the world gives, but is a divine peace...These two commandments are external and not internal...These external commandments bring an internal peace...
The world is broke and needs fixed...We have been given One who can fix our world...His name is Jesus and what He teaches, fixes what is broke...I am part of the world's problem, and we need I AM to help us fix it...
