Matthew 22:36-40
The Greatest Commandment
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Jesus tells us that the Two Greatest Commandments are to love God and to love neighbor...So we know that we are love both God and neighbor, but Jesus does say, that loving God is the Greatest Commandment...But helping our neighbors is very important too...So we need to go to help others...And that is so important to Him that we forgive others, enemies, everyone and help those who are in need of help and need mercy...So while we are on earth we are to help others...
Then things get even more tough and complicated...C. S. Lewis did not say that Jesus did not say, go into the world and tell the world that it is quite right....Lewis did write, "The terrible thing, the almost impossible thing, is to hand over your whole self — all your wishes and precautions"...And Lewis adds, "There are only two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’”...
God is Spirit...So I know that God wants us to see and follow His Holy Spirit...I know since Jesus teaches us, that God's Will will be done on earth, as it is in heaven -that His Will will be done, wherever it is...Yet, an almost impossible thing for me is to give up earthly things, pleasures, and desires, even though I know that God's Will get done on earth...St. Paul reminds us that we have been raised with Jesus, and we must set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God...We should set our minds on things above, not on earthly things...For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God...
These Teachings when you read the gospel seem easy...This is not easy Scripture for me...
